Summary:
Introduction (relevance). A pressing problem of modern society is the high incidence of illness among healthcare workers. Most often, attention is paid to infectious diseases associated with the performance of work functions, for which a professional safety system has been created, including preventive measures. At the same time, the true prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases is controversial and insufficiently studied.
Target. To analyze the structure of chronic non-infectious diseases and the causes of development in a group of specialists with secondary medical education.
Materials and methods. The work uses the results of an anonymous sociological survey of 90 nurses.
Results. Only 70% of nursing professionals with less than 5 years of work experience consider themselves healthy. In the group of workers with 5-10 years of work experience, this figure drops to 15%. Medical workers who have devoted more than 10 years to the profession note the presence of one or two chronic diseases in 40% of cases, and three or more in 60%. In the analyzed group, 14 (48%) nurses indicated exacerbations of chronic diseases during the last year. Moreover, in 68% of cases, they did not seek medical help at the place where the insurance policy was attached, limiting themselves to self-medication (44%) and informal consultations with doctors working nearby (24%). In 96% of cases they continued to work.
Conclusion. Specialists with secondary medical education in the study group have a high incidence of chronic non-communicable diseases and associate their development with professional activity. Low adherence to treatment based on dispensary supervision, a tendency to self-medication reduce the quality of life, negatively affect the performance of official duties. This requires the development of a set of measures to increase the motivation of medical workers to take care of their health.
Keywords nursing specialists; chronic non-communicable diseases; self-assessment of health
