Summary:
Relevance. Children's dental health is a critical indicator of public health, directly influencing the condition of the dentoalveolar system throughout life. Therefore, effective workforce planning based on statistical data is essential. Pediatric dentists play a key role in the dental care system, providing not only treatment but also preventive services and promoting healthy behaviors among children. Analyzing the utilization patterns of these specialists allows for assessing care accessibility, identifying disparities between urban and rural populations, projecting staffing needs, and optimizing patient referral pathways. In the Ivanovo Region, given the ongoing demographic changes, such an analysis over the past six years is vital for improving the regional dental care system. Purpose. To determine the proportion of visits to pediatric dentists among all dental specialist visits by children in the Ivanovo Region from 2019 to 2024. Materials and Methods. We analyzed data from the official statistical reporting Form No. 30 ("Information on the activities of medical organizations") for the Ivanovo Region for the period 2019–2024. The analyzed data included the pediatric population size and the number of visits to dental specialists. The proportion of visits to pediatric dentists for preventive and other purposes was evaluated. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis, with primary data processed using Microsoft Excel. Results. During the study period, the proportion of visits to pediatric dentists increased from 21.18% to 39.90%. The visit rate to these specialists per 1,000 children increased 2.3-fold. However, a pronounced territorial imbalance was identified: the absolute number of visits among urban children increased by 122.58%, whereas it decreased by 23.7% among rural children. The proportion of preventive and other visits among rural children declined from 16.2% to 6.2%. The visit rate per 1,000 children reached 643.12 among urban residents, compared to only 230.78 among rural residents. Conclusion. Despite an overall increase in the proportion of visits to pediatric dentists, the absolute number and rate of visits to these specialists among children living in rural areas significantly decreased, highlighting a growing urban-rural disparity in dental care accessibility.
