Summary:
Abstract In the Russian Federation, 21% of women and 16% of men, representing over 21 million people, are obese. However, according to official statistics, only 1.8 million registered cases of obesity are monitored by clinics in the Russian Federation.
To optimize the healthcare system, it is essential to obtain public feedback on the accessibility and level of medical care received. Patient feedback helps identify barriers to accessing medical care, assess its effectiveness, and improve quality and patient adherence to treatment.
Objective. To assess the satisfaction of adult patients with obesity in the Russian Federation with the level of primary health care.
Material and methods. The data are based on a sociological study conducted among adult patients with obesity by the Federal Research Centre of Nutrition and Biotechnology in 2024. Research methods employed: sociological and analytical.
Results. The age distribution of respondents ranged from 19 to 84 years (average age 52,8 years). Despite mandatory consultations with an endocrinologist, as required by the standard, only 48,1% of respondents were referred to an endocrinologist for obese patients.
Furthermore, 26,2% (n=101) of respondents received recommendations for weight management when visiting a clinic, while 73,8% (n=285) received no recommendations.
More than half of respondents (52,85%) rated their primary health care as unsatisfactory, while a fifth (21%) rated it positively (of which only 6,55% rated the care highly), and 26,15% were undecided.
Conclusion. Patient satisfaction with the quality of medical care for obesity is low. Additional organizational approaches are needed to expand the coverage of outpatient care for adult patients with obesity and improve the quality of medical care provided to them.
