Summary:
Significance. The organization of medical appointments through digital services represents one of the most effective measures for enhancing the accessibility and reducing waiting times for primary care. However, the specific physiological and socio-psychological characteristics of the elderly, combined with a technological environment that does not meet the needs of an aging population, can significantly limit this group's access to primary healthcare. Given the high demand for medical care among older citizens, the pressing tasks are to improve the digital literacy of this age group and adapt digital appointment booking services to their requirements.
Objective – to assess the level of proficiency in using digital services for booking medical appointments among elderly and senile patients seeking primary health care, and to identify factors influencing their use.
Material and methods. An observational cross-sectional sociological study was conducted, involving 382 respondents aged 60 years and older who sought primary health care at a state-owned medical facility. The survey method was employed. Frequencies, proportions, arithmetic means, standard errors of the mean, and Pearson's chi-squared test (χ²) were calculated to compare different groups based on qualitative characteristics.
Results and Discussion. The obtained results confirm the influence of demographic and social factors on the choice of appointment booking method and the ability to use digital services. More pronounced differences were identified when analyzing the impact of age and residential status. For instance, patients living with relatives or children more often had appointments scheduled by other family members, indicating limited independent access of the elderly to modern information technologies. This necessitates the development and implementation of targeted measures to enhance digital literacy and adapt the interfaces of digital appointment scheduling services to the capabilities of the older generation.
Conclusion. The study assessed the level of digital skills among elderly patients seeking primary health care at a medical facility. The analysis identified and evaluated the factors influencing the use of digital services for scheduling medical appointments.
