Summary:
Significance. Population aging is a significant megatrend of the 21st century with a profound impact on various aspects of society, including social systems, economy, and healthcare. This trend is accompanied by an increase in the number of older adults, who often suffer from chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and require long-term care. The primary health care system plays a crucial role in early detection, management, and prevention of these conditions.
The purpose of the study. To analyze the dynamics of general and primary morbidity among adult populations and older age groups in Sevastopol between 2015 and 2023.
Material and methods. Data were obtained from the Federal Statistical Form No. 12, which were analyzed retrospectively by major ICD-10 disease classes. Comparisons were made between general and primary morbidity rates for adults and individuals over working age.
Results. The analysis showed that chronic non-communicable diseases are the main cause of morbidity. Cardiovascular, endocrine, neoplastic, respiratory, and digestive conditions contribute the most to the overall disease burden. Older adults have higher morbidity rates, emphasizing their role as major contributors to the epidemiological burden. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on healthcare utilization, causing temporary decreases followed by compensatory increases and fluctuations in several disease categories.
Discussion. The morbidity dynamics in Sevastopol are in line with global trends, with an increasing prevalence of NCDs, a dominance of cardiovascular and endocrine conditions, and a greater burden among older adults. These trends are also seen in the impact of crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to declines in healthcare utilization, followed by compensatory surges. These statistics reflect both the patterns of disease and the accessibility of services. Regional analysis reveals how these global shifts manifest in Sevastopol, emphasizing the need for targeted public health care strategies.
Conclusions. The morbidity trends in Sevastopol underscore the global trend towards an increasing burden of NCDs, highlighting the urgency of strengthening public health care, expanding geriatric care, and enhancing preventive programs for older adults.
