Summary:
Professional development presupposes the continuity of education, which is facilitated by motivation to learn. Motivation is a set of internal and external factors that cause and support purposeful behavior. Understanding the nature of motivation makes it possible to form stable personal habits more effectively. In the field of education, understanding motivation is important for developing students' intrinsic motivation, maintaining their autonomy, and increasing the importance and self-esteem of learning.
The purpose of the review is to systematize the factors influencing doctors' motivation for professional development, as well as to describe strategies for participating in lifelong learning.
Methods. Literary sources are selected by keywords (motivation to study/ to professional development / to professional growth / to professional improvement /to professional development) in the abstract databases Vygotsky Library, Elibrary, PsyJournals.ru, Google Scholar, SpringerLink.
Results. There are 5 groups of factors that influence a person's motivation for professional development: internal and external motivation; work environment and organizational support; professional identity and role models; autonomy and free will; professional development as a way of life; motivation for professional development. Difficulties in maintaining motivation are related to lack of time, emotional burnout, lack of immediate reward, and unequal access to vocational education resources. Effective strategies include personalized learning, mentoring, and peer support; recognition and reward systems; workplace support; and time management.
Conclusion. Strong internal motivation, the importance of professional identity, as well as the desire to match the bright representatives of the professional environment push doctors to improve their skills.
