Summary:
Introduction. Self-assessed health is a subjective measure that allows the respondent to assess his/her health in terms of overall self-esteem, physical well-being and mental health, which is consistent with the WHO definition of health. The results show concerns about unhealthy eating habits and gaps in basic nutrition knowledge among the surveyed health workers. Most of the health workers skipped breakfast and often ate a lot of unhealthy foods such as carbonated drinks, pastries and fried foods during work. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between the subjective assessment of doctors' health and their eating habits using regression analysis. Material and methods. A survey of 505 doctors of various profiles was conducted. Results. The subjective 100-point assessment of health had a direct weak correlation with the age of doctors (r = 0.157; p = 0.000), i.e. younger doctors assess their health worse, and the subjective assessment of their health by young doctors (78.23 ± 17.62) was statistically significantly (p = 0.001) lower than that of middle-aged doctors (83.47 ± 16.12). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed only 4 significant dietary predictors that had a significant impact on the health of the surveyed doctors: the frequency of consumption of sweet carbonated drinks (β=-4.154; p=0.014) has a negative relationship with the value of the 100-point subjective assessment of health, positive relationships were established with the frequency of breakfasts per week (β=4.462; p=0.001), with the consumption of orange (β=3.524; p=0.002) and milk (β=2.885; p=0.000). The only significant factor that negatively affects the subjective assessment of health was the frequency of drinking carbonated drinks. Young doctors drink carbonated drinks more often than middle-aged doctors, and this is confirmed by the presence of a statistically significant difference in age groups (χ2 = 107.5; ρ = 12; p = 0.000). Young doctors experience anxiety and depression significantly more often than older doctors (χ2 = 20.49; ρ = 6; p = 0.002). This dependence is confirmed by a negative moderate correlation (r = 0.396; p = 0.000) between age and the level of anxiety and depression. Conclusions. Thus, the results of the study indicate that the subjective assessment of the state of health in young doctors was lower than in older people. The main 4 predictors influencing self-assessment of health were identified: the frequency of breakfasts, consumption of orange and milk have a positive effect, while the frequency of consumption of carbonated sweet drinks (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Duchess, etc.) has a negative effect. It was found that young doctors significantly more often report feelings of anxiety and depression, and also more often consume carbonated sweet drinks.
