Summary:
Introduction (relevance). Prostate cancer incidence and associated mortality are a major health concern worldwide. In 2022, there were 1,467,854 new cases and 397,430 deaths worldwide, according to the World Cancer Research Fund International. The United States, China, and Japan have the highest number of new cases. The five countries with the highest number of deaths from this disease in 2022 were: China — 47,522, the United States — 33,746, Brazil — 19,958, India — 18,386, Germany — 18,015.
Purpose: to assess the incidence of prostate cancer and its outcomes among the male population of the Omsk Region from 2012 to 2022.
Material and Methods: an observational descriptive and evaluative study was conducted in the Omsk Region from 2012 to 2022. The study used data from the Federal Statistical Reporting Form No. 7 "Information on Malignant Neoplasms" and official statistical information collections. The study assessed changes in the incidence and mortality rates of prostate cancer among men in 32 districts of the region and the city of Omsk, as well as analyzed the effectiveness of preventive measures based on early detection, mortality rates, and the index of accumulation of patient groups.
Results: The average annual incidence of prostate cancer ("rough indicators") in the Omsk region in 2012-2022 was 66,9 (Tpr. = +0,8%) cases per 100,000 male population and was 15,8% higher than the similar indicator in the Russian Federation of 57,8 (Tpr. = +3,3%). The average annual incidence of prostate cancer (PC) in Omsk in 2012–2022 was 71,3 per 100,000, which was 6,6% higher than the regional average. In rural areas of the region, the incidence of PC was 13,6% lower than the regional average.
Discussions. A regional analysis of the incidence and mortality from prostate cancer in the administrative districts of the Omsk Region revealed areas at risk. The results obtained indicate the need to improve the cancer care system in the region, develop a set of measures for early diagnosis and increase the coverage of the male population by screening, using the possibilities of the media.
Conclusions (conclusion): To reduce the incidence and mortality rates of prostate cancer, it is necessary to implement a set of measures to improve the regional cancer care system.
