SURGICAL INTERVENTION RATES AMONG TOBACCO-USING PATIENTS WITH PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS

Summary:
A large number of global studies prove the enormous negative role of tobacco smoking on the development and more severe course of tuberculosis among the population. The information received highlights the need for an integrated approach in the treatment of tuberculosis patients who consume tobacco. One of the important components of an integrated approach among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis is the use of surgical resection methods of treatment. The active introduction of surgical methods in the comprehensive treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis can increase the cure rate by up to 85%. Thus, there is a high need for the active introduction of surgical interventions in the comprehensive treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, including those with tobacco dependence.
Purpose. To study the structure of the volume of surgical interventions among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who consume tobacco.
Materials and methods. A retrospective prospective cohort study was conducted on the basis of the Phthisiology department of the CNIIT from 2020 to 2024. A total of 368 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups: group 1 – smokers (194 people), group 2 – non-smokers (174 people).
