Summary:
Introduction. Human eating behavior is a complex and multifactorial phenomenon, which is formed under the influence of not only physiological needs for energy and nutrients, but also many psychosocial factors [1]. These include cultural traditions, habits, and emotional state. Some people may tend to overeat in response to stress, while others may lose their appetite. Understanding these types of eating behaviors is critical for prevention and treatment.
Objective: To assess the type of eating behavior in students and identify predisposition to eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa.
Materials and Methods. Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire, eating behavior assessment scale. The object of the study was the second-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry of PGMU named after academician Wagner (n=50). Scientific publications presented on the following Internet resources: eLibrary, PubMed, Cyberleninka, “ConsultantPlus”, published in the period for 2019-2023. The selection of sources was carried out in accordance with the PRISMA criteria.
Results. In the course of the study, data on the expression of types of eating behavior were obtained, distinguishing emotiogenic and externalizing types. In addition, the propensity to develop eating behavior disorders such as bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa was revealed.
Discussion. The problem of eating disorders (ED) is becoming increasingly important due to several interrelated factors. Firstly, the prevalence of eating disorders is steadily increasing, affecting more and more people of different ages and social groups. Unfortunately, statistics often underestimate the real picture, as many people who suffer from RPD are embarrassed to seek help and, as we will see later, diagnosis is difficult. Secondly, the consequences of RPP are extremely serious and multifaceted. They affect not only physical health - wasting, anorexia, heart problems, gastrointestinal problems, hormonal disorders - but also mental well-being, leading to depression, anxiety disorders, social isolation and reduced quality of life.
Conclusion. Lack of proper nutrition, as well as neglect of the daily regimen, lead to negative consequences that require attention from educational and medical institutions. In this regard, attention should be paid to the need for preventive measures aimed at forming healthy eating habits and improving awareness of proper nutrition among students, which will contribute to maintaining their health and improving the quality of life.
