Summary:
Introduction. The challenging epidemiological situation caused by the rapid spread of COVID-19 posed significant challenges for the industrial enterprise Gazprom Dobycha Nadym LLC in terms of rapid response and preventing disruptions to continuous production, particularly at remote oil and gas fields on the Yamal Peninsula. The objective of this study is to examine the characteristics of the epidemic process of the new coronavirus infection and the organization of preventive and anti-epidemic measures, using the operational experience of Gazprom Dobycha Nadym LLC (the Company) during the COVID-19 pandemic as a case study. Materials and methods. This paper presents the results of a retrospective analysis of COVID-19 incidence among the Company's employees, including a comparative study of logarithmic scales showing the daily epidemic growth rates of new COVID-19 cases in the Russian Federation versus within the Company. The study documents all implemented response measures from 2019 to 2023, encompassing both general anti-epidemic protocols and specific interventions aimed at reducing infection spread across five remote industrial facilities (RIMF). These facilities operate under similar climatic and geographical conditions while engaged in mineral resource extraction. Results. The study results revealed that the COVID-19 incidence rate among the Company's employees was 3.3 times higher than the national average in Russia and 1.6 times higher than the average in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO). This discrepancy primarily stems from the Company's comprehensive testing coverage of all employees for SARS-CoV-2 and its thorough case registration system. The Company recorded all COVID-19 cases detected not only through its Medical and Sanitary Unit (MSU), but also by processing data from municipal district hospitals across the region and collecting information from human resources departments about employees who fell ill during inter-shift or regular leaves outside the Company's operating region. Notably, the case fatality rate in the Company was 42 times lower than the national average and 14 times lower than the YNAO regional average. This significant difference demonstrates the effectiveness of the implemented anti-epidemic and specific preventive measures.
